Adult Education and Family Literacy

 

Tennessee Adult Education division delivers educational services to adults who are over the age of 17 (unless granted an exception) lacking a high school diploma and no longer under compulsory attendance to public high school. 

 

Community Service Block Grant

The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is a federally funded grant program created by the Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1981. The program aims to combat poverty within communities by removing the barriers to self-sufficiency clients may encounter. Applicants meeting the income requirements may be eligible for a variety of services.

Employment Services 

 

Database provides easy access to the largest number of unduplicated online job opportunities currently available in one location with more than 90,000 jobs every day. In addition to taking job orders directly from Tennessee employers, the system continually searches through the web sites of local newspapers, recruiters, hospitals, and government sites to pull in all the best jobs.

 

Families First - TANF

Families First, the state’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, is a workforce development and employment program. It is temporary and has a primary focus on gaining self-sufficiency through employment. The Families First program helps participants reach this goal by providing transportation, child care assistance, education, job training, employment activities, and other support services. Temporary cash assistance is also provided to families with dependent children when at least one parent is incapacitated, unemployed, deceased, or absent from the home, and the family is unable to pay for essential living expenses. 

Housing and Urban Development - HUD

HUD's mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes; utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination, and transform the way HUD does business.

 

JobCorps

Job Corps is the nation's largest career technical training and education program for young people ages 16 through 24.

Students can earn a high school diploma, a high school equivalency credential, or college credits through Job Corps.

We offer career technical training in more than 100 career areas. Students receive housing, meals, basic health care, a living allowance, training, and preparation for a career, all at no cost.

For up to 21 months after graduation, a career transition counselor will help your student make the transition from Job Corps into the real world.

Job Counseling, Training and Placement for Veterans

 

Our offices serve as an outreach to veterans and insure veterans' priority of service in referral to jobs and other services. Employment-related testing, training information, skills assessment and case management are among the services provided.  Our local offices assist more than 39,000 veterans annually. Additionally, we work with employers to match their needs with your qualifications. 

Middle Tennessee Rural Reentry

To provide quality community reentry services that will reduce recidivism, empower clients to enter gainful employment, lead productive lives and return to safer communities.

Motlow State Community College

Motlow State Community College is a public, multi-campus college offering certificates, associate degrees, and flexible learning pathways for early transfer, college preparation, and workforce training. Students are prepared for employment, career advancement, and four-year college or university transfer. The College serves an eleven- county area comprised of full-time, part-time, traditional, and non-traditional age students from diverse socio-economic populations with disparate educational and cultural backgrounds. The College offers high quality accredited educational programs and a variety of support services emphasizing and promoting student success.

National Farmworker Jobs Program

The National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP) is the most successful job training program operated by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). It is a fiscally responsible program aimed at educating and training farmworkers into jobs that allow them to earn an income to sustain themselves and their families. 

Senior Community Services Employment Program

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is an employment training program for low-income, unemployed individuals aged 55 years and older. The program provides subsidized, part-time work experience for a limited time through community service. Participants in the program learn new skills and talents, or enhance existing skills, through valuable work experience and other training to become competitive in today's workforce.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - SNAP

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) provides nutritional assistance benefits to children and families, the elderly, the disabled, unemployed and working families. SNAP helps supplement monthly food budgets of families with low-income to buy the food they need to maintain good health and allow them to direct more of their available income toward essential living expenses. 

Tennessee College of Applied Technology @ Shelbyville

The Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology serve as the premier suppliers of workforce development throughout the State of Tennessee. The Colleges fulfill their mission by:

  • Providing competency-based training through superior quality, traditional and distance learning instruction methods that qualify completers for employment and job advancement;
  • Contributing to the economic and community development of the communities served by training and retraining employed workers;
  • Ensuring that programs and services are economical and accessible to all residents of Tennessee; and
  • Building relationships of trust with community, business, and industry leaders to supply highly skilled workers in areas of need.

TN Reconnect

The Tennessee Reconnect Act establishes a last-dollar scholarship for adults to attend a community college tuition-free. With this extension of the Drive to 55, which comes at no additional cost to taxpayers, every Tennessean will have the opportunity to enter or reenter public higher education with no tuition expenses. 

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA)

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) provides support to laid-off workers and downsizing businesses impacted by jobs leaving the USA or foreign products or services making it hard to compete.

Unemployment Insurance (UI)

 

Unemployment Insurance (UI) is a social insurance program paid by Tennessee employers for workers who have lost their job through no fault of their own.

Vocational Rehabilitation

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is responsible for the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services program, which includes determination of eligibility,  determination of the nature and scope of VR services and the provision of employment-focused rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities consistent with their strengths, priorities and resources.

YouthBuild

The mission of YouthBuild USA and YouthBuild International is to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of low-income young people to rebuild their communities and their lives.
